The activL Artificial Disc replacement is done for one-level lumbar surgery. Artificial Disc is a weight-bearing modular implant consisting of two end plates and one polyethylene inlay. This is done as an alternative to fusion. It allows controlled motion at the implanted level.

The preferred  spinal implants metal is titanium it does not degrade the magnetic resonance image,  details of the spinal cord can be seen clearly.  Long term success of fixation depends on the bony fusion.
